An interdisciplinary, full text database for research in the legal literature and the newspaper literature, LexisNexis provides access to case law, federal and state codes, legislation, and other legal resources (the Lexis part) and newspapers, wire services, transcripts of broadcasts, newsletters, blogs, and others news resources (the Nexis part).

The home page provides extensive information on searching the database under the Help link, and there are a number of excellent tutorials providing a general overview and information on selecting sources, working with results, and using caselaw summaries and headnotes in legal research.

An alternative database for doing legal research is Westlaw Campus Research, which is available for use only on campus.

An alternative database covering the newspaper literature is ProQuest, which is accessible remotely, and in addition the Columbia University Libraries make available a number of other resources for searching newspaper collections to find articles.
